Frist Art Museum Welcomes “Beauty and Ritual,” a Dazzling Tour of Jewish Ceremonial Art

Nashville art lovers are in for a treat: the Frist Art Museum opens Beauty and Ritual: Judaica from the Jewish Museum, New York on October 30, a radiant exhibition celebrating the artistic, cultural, and spiritual significance of more than 130 Jewish ceremonial objects from around the world.

From South Asia to North Africa, from Western Europe to Australia and the Americas, Jewish communities and artists have reimagined traditional Judaica across centuries and continents, and this exhibition brings their creativity vividly to life. The show unfolds in three beautiful sections: the communal world of the synagogue, the warmth of the Sabbath at home, and a finale devoted to the Hanukkah menorah, one of the most beloved and recognizable symbols of Jewish culture.

The timing could not be sweeter — the Frist’s presentation coincides with Hanukkah, the eight-day festival of lights. The festivities kick off the night before with an Opening Conversation on Thursday, October 29, at 6:30 p.m., featuring Abigail Rapoport of the Jewish Museum, the Frist’s Trinita Kennedy, and executive director Seth Feman, plus a performance of traditional Jewish music by Cantor Josh Goldberg in the Grand Lobby.

Open through February 7, 2027, Beauty and Ritual invites visitors of every background to discover the beauty, resilience, and joy woven into these treasured objects — a perfect autumn outing in the heart of downtown Nashville.
