Minnehaha Park is the family day that plans itself. Start at the falls overlook for the gasp, descend the stairs to walk behind the water curtain (prepare to get misted and delighted), then follow the creek trail as it winds through the glen — kids lead, adults pretend they know the plant names.
The park layers on the options: the Wabun Picnic Area’s playgrounds and wading pool, disc golf for the big kids, bike rentals for a Grand Rounds roll to the river, and the Sea Salt Eatery’s legendary line for po’boys and ice cream (worth it; send one adult ahead). Off-leash Minnehaha Dog Park, one of the city’s biggest, waits down by the Mississippi for four-legged family.
End on the Longfellow Bridge of green above the creek as the light goes gold. A waterfall, a wading pool and a very good sandwich: family math doesn’t get simpler.
