The Getty Center is celebrating Los Angeles with “Every Minute Is History: Five Views of Los Angeles,” a joyful, bilingual exhibition on view through January 3, 2027.
The show gathers five photographers — Laura Aguilar, Reynaldo Rivera, George Rodriguez, Patssi Valdez and Ricardo Valverde — who captured the city’s Latino/a and Chicano/a communities during the second half of the 20th century, each in a radically personal style.
Visitors will find everything from George Rodriguez’s legendary portraits of Eastside life and civic pride, to Patssi Valdez’s dazzling staged fashion imagery, to Ricardo Valverde’s hand-colored celebrations of Día de Muertos. Together they offer five loving, unfiltered versions of the same city.
Best of all, the exhibition is presented in both English and Spanish — “Cada minuto es historia: cinco perspectivas de Los Ángeles” — with gallery text, programs and workshops fully bilingual, so the whole city can feel at home.
Admission to the Getty Center is free (parking is a flat fee), making this a perfect weekend plan for the whole family. And with companion programming like serigraphy demos, bilingual collage workshops and artist talks, there’s something new every visit.
