Las Vegas art lovers have one last chance to see a moving solo exhibition in the valley. Para las Hijas Mayores (for the Eldest Daughters) by artist Yazmin Garcia closes on Thursday, October 22, 2026, at the Pearson Community Center Gallery, and Clark County Public Arts is celebrating the finale with a free closing reception that evening from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Garcia, a first-generation Mexican American artist, created the mixed-media paintings from her own experience growing up as the helper, caregiver, protector and peacekeeper of her family. Through the works she explores the responsibilities, expectations and histories that eldest daughters carry, moving through themes of identity, sacrifice, ancestry, grief, motherhood, healing and community.
The artist describes each painting as its own story and the full exhibition as a complete book. At its heart is a hopeful idea: healing is not a destination, but a path toward belonging, shaped by looking at what we have inherited and choosing what to carry forward.
The show is the first exhibition of SOLO SERIES FY27, a Clark County Public Arts program that gives four local emerging and under-recognized artists the opportunity to present solo exhibitions at the Pearson gallery. The gallery, at 1625 W. Carey Ave. in North Las Vegas, is open Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Visitors are invited to meet Garcia at the closing reception, experience the exhibition one final time and celebrate local art together. Admission is free and open to the public.
