A Christmas Carol at KC Rep: Kansas City’s Dearest Holiday Tradition

Generations of Kansas Citians mark the season the same way: with Kansas City Repertory Theatre’s “A Christmas Carol,” the beloved production that has filled the Spencer Theatre with Dickensian snow, ghosts and redemption for more than four decades.

KC Rep — the region’s flagship professional theatre, resident at UMKC — mounts the classic with a large local cast, lavish period design and the kind of ensemble warmth that turns first-timers into annual regulars. Marley rattles, the Fezziwigs dance, and Tiny Tim lands his line like a bell.

The Rep’s season around it mixes classics, premieres and its OriginKC new-works festival, but December belongs to Dickens — and to the families who wouldn’t dream of skipping him.

God bless us, every one — and see you at the Spencer.
