Science City at Union Station: Kansas City’s Hands-On Science Playground

Inside Union Station’s vast halls, Science City has been sparking Kansas City curiosity for more than 25 years — a hands-on science center where touching everything is the whole point.

Kids (and plenty of adults) dig for dinosaur bones, pedal a bike high above the floor on the Sky Bike, generate electricity, explore the Nature Center’s animals and crawl through exhibits on the human body, water, energy and simple machines. The centerpiece Maker Studio and test kitchens of science demos keep every visit different.

Science City consistently ranks among America’s top science centers, and it anchors a full Union Station day: the Arvin Gottlieb Planetarium, the giant-screen theatre, model railroad gallery and the station’s own grand architecture.

Come with kids and a plan to “just stay an hour.” Nobody ever does.
