Houston art lovers have three brand-new reasons to visit the Menil Collection this fall! The museum kicked off September with a burst of creativity: a monumental 36-foot site-specific wall drawing by Jitish Kallat, a leading figure in contemporary Indian art, now fills the entry space of the Menil Drawing Institute as part of the annual Wall Drawing Series, on view through August 8, 2027.
Also opening in the Drawing Institute is Fragility, an exhibition of more than 60 works by 23 artists that celebrates the delicate yet resilient qualities of paper — from drawings made by piercing, abrading, stitching, and burning to a display of paper sculptures. It runs through January 24, 2027, and includes one of the museum’s newest acquisitions, Jim Hodges’s A Diary of Flowers.
Meanwhile, in the main building, a major survey of contemporary prints and works on paper by artist Terry Winters opened on September 25. Whether you’re drawn to bold contemporary commissions or quiet works on paper, the Menil has something waiting for you this season — always free and always inspiring.
