Tour the Ford Rouge: Watch F-150s Being Born in Dearborn

There is only one place in America where you can watch a pickup truck being born from a theater seat in the sky. The Ford Rouge Factory Tour, part of The Henry Ford’s attractions in Dearborn, lifts visitors onto an elevated walkway above the Dearborn Truck Plant’s final assembly line, where Ford F-150s roll together in a ballet of robots and people.

The experience starts with two films — one on Henry Ford’s revolutionary Rouge complex, once the largest integrated factory in the world, and one on the making of the F-150 — before the living factory floor steals the show. Up top, the Rouge’s vast green roof, planted with sedum, and exhibits on the plant’s environmental reinvention add a surprising chapter on sustainability.

Tours depart from Henry Ford Museum at 20900 Oakwood Boulevard. Schedules vary with the plant’s production calendar, so check thehenryford.org before you go.
