Free and Full of Color: CMA Community Days Celebrates Día de los Muertos on Sunday, November 1

Columbus gets a joyful, family-friendly celebration of memory and culture on Sunday, November 1, when the Columbus Museum of Art hosts CMA Community Days: Día de los Muertos from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Admission is completely free for all ages, and registration is encouraged.

The heart of the day is a participatory community ofrenda created by artist Renee Zamora. Guests are welcome to bring an object or a photo to add to the ofrenda to honor loved ones who have passed, and a photo booth invites families to capture the day together. From 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, a Family Morning Art Activity lets visitors create something meaningful to place on the ofrenda, while Bilingual Storytime with Columbus Metropolitan Library offers songs, rhymes and stories in English and Spanish at 10:30 and 11:30 AM.

The Community Celebration runs from 12:00 to 4:00 PM, with colorful Nicho box art-making, a chance to learn lotería — the traditional Mexican game of chance similar to bingo — tasty bites and community vendors. Performances fill the afternoon, including Ballet Folclórico Xochihua at 2:00 PM. Visitors can also join 10 Minutes on the Dot, hourly from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM inside the exhibition Clare Rojas: Returning, with Spanish and ASL interpretation at select times. It is a warm, welcoming day to learn, create and celebrate together in Columbus.
