Four Climates in One Afternoon: The Conservatory’s World Biomes

Only at Franklin Park Conservatory can you start your afternoon in a Himalayan cloud forest and end it in a Pacific island rain — without leaving Columbus.

The Conservatory’s biome houses recreate Earth’s great climates under glass: the misty Himalayan Mountains with their rhododendrons, the lush Rainforest, the sun-blasted Desert of towering cacti, and the Pacific Island Water Garden where koi drift beneath tropical foliage. Seasonal shows transform the Dorothy M. Davis Showhouse through the year — orchids in winter, butterflies in spring and summer.

The biomes make the Conservatory a living textbook, where a schoolchild’s geography lesson comes with humidity, fragrance and the occasional fluttering butterfly.

Passport not required. Columbus keeps the whole planet’s gardens on Franklin Park’s east side.
