Wagner: Myth & Music — 180+ Artists Take the Stage at Lyric Opera House November 20 & 22

Chicago’s Lyric Opera is turning up the volume this fall with Wagner: Myth & Music, a thrilling concert program of Richard Wagner’s greatest orchestral and choral moments, coming to the Lyric Opera House on Friday, November 20 at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday, November 22 at 2:00 p.m.

More than 180 artists will fill the stage: over 90 musicians of the Lyric Opera Orchestra and 90 voices of the Lyric Opera Chorus, joined by star soprano Christine Goerke — beloved for her unforgettable Brünnhilde — as soloist. Making his Lyric debut is conductor Alexander Soddy, the acclaimed Wagnerian fresh from leading the Ring cycle at Milan’s La Scala.

The two performances will also premiere the Lyric Opera House’s brand-new David W. and Orit K. Carpenter Concert Shell, a state-of-the-art acoustic shell designed to carry the full power of a great orchestra and chorus into every corner of the hall.

The program includes the Prelude and Liebestod from Tristan und Isolde, the Immolation Scene from Götterdämmerung, and excerpts from Tannhäuser, Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, and Parsifal — all sung in German with English supertitles.

Tickets are on sale now at lyricopera.org/wagner or by calling 312.827.5600.
