Chicago gets a sparkling new Saturday tradition this holiday season. Navy Pier is bringing back its free Winter Fireworks, a series of dazzling displays over Lake Michigan with the iconic skyline as the backdrop, every Saturday from November 21 through December 26.
The opening show on Saturday, November 21 starts at 8:30 p.m., and the following shows — November 28 and December 5, 12, 19 and 26 — begin at 8:00 p.m. Admission is completely free, so families can simply bundle up, stroll out to the Pier and look up.
Navy Pier’s fireworks have been voted the best place to see fireworks in national readers’ choice awards, and the winter edition promises the same magic with a festive twist: bursts of color reflecting off the lake, crisp night air and postcard views in every direction.
It is an easy, joyful plan for a holiday evening downtown — arrive early, enjoy the lights along the Pier, and claim a good spot before the first rocket rises. Navy Pier is at 600 E. Grand Avenue.
