Baltimore is celebrating a joyful homecoming at the Baltimore Museum of Art. Jerrell Gibbs: Come home with me, now on view in the museum’s Special Exhibition Galleries through May 2, 2027, presents 32 new paintings by the acclaimed Baltimore artist, all inspired by the people, places, and experiences that have shaped his life.
At the heart of the exhibition is the home of Gibbs’s Aunt Ella, a cherished gathering place where loved ones came together. Through richly expressive, warmly observed scenes, Gibbs transforms personal stories and everyday moments into reflections on home, community, and belonging. The paintings celebrate the relationships that connect us across generations, backgrounds, and communities, and remind visitors that home is more than a place ā it is a feeling.
Born in Baltimore in 1988, Gibbs earned his M.F.A. from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2020. His work is held in the collections of the Baltimore Museum of Art, the Brandywine Museum of Art, the Columbus Museum of Art, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, among others. This major hometown solo show, curated by BMA Assistant Curator of Contemporary Art Antoinette Roberts, is a chance to see a beloved local artist at a thrilling moment, painting his own city and family with love.
The Baltimore Museum of Art is at 10 Art Museum Drive. Plan your visit at artbma.org and come home to these paintings.
