The Inner Harbor: Baltimore’s Sparkling Front Porch

It is one of urban America’s great comeback stories — and still the city’s sparkling front porch. Baltimore’s Inner Harbor transformed a working port into a festival waterfront of promenades, pavilions, museum ships and skyline views, anchored by icons: the National Aquarium’s glass pyramids, the USS Constellation and the Historic Ships fleet, the Maryland Science Center and the World Trade Center’s Top of the World observation level.

The brick promenade loops the water from Federal Hill to Harbor East, passing paddle boats, the Pride of Baltimore II at anchor and the amphitheater lawns where the city gathers for concerts and fireworks. Every Baltimore visit starts here, and every Baltimore summer evening seems to end here too, with the lights coming up across the water.

The Inner Harbor is downtown at Pratt and Light streets, walkable from everywhere and served by the free Charm City Circulator and the Water Taxi. Just come and stroll.
