Atlanta – A plain cardboard box becomes a castle, a rocket or a robot at Outside the Box, the joyful fall pop-up exhibit now open at the Children’s Museum of Atlanta in downtown Atlanta. The museum’s very own featured exhibit invites young inventors to transform everyday boxes into anything they can imagine – cars, houses, rockets, robots and more – with creativity as the only limit.
Inside the Construction Corner, families take on design challenges together, building bridges, castles and rockets from cardboard boxes of all shapes and sizes. As children build, test and redesign their creations from scratch, they explore the basics of math, engineering and science without even noticing they are learning.
The fun continues in the Costume Courtyard, a dress-up area where kids role-play the jobs of building and design, and in Story Square, a cozy reading nook with STEAM-themed books plus shape and color sorting activities. Littlest builders get their own space too: the Toddler Terrace offers smaller boxes and colorful foam blocks made just for tots.
Every visit produces something new, from collaborative group builds to solo creations. Outside the Box is on view this fall at the Children’s Museum of Atlanta, 275 Centennial Olympic Park Drive NW – a happy reminder that the best toy in the world might just be the box it came in.
