Las Vegas is singing a quieter, sunnier song this fall. "Song of the Oasis," a free exhibition at the Mayor’s Gallery inside the Historic Fifth Street School, brings together oil paintings and sculptures that celebrate the vitality, light, shadow and rich diversity of the natural and human landscapes of the American West.
The show features seven professional painters and sculptors based in Las Vegas: Stephen Chang, Emil Fu, Zijian He (Liangyi), Dadong Song, Zhou Xu (Joe Xu), Lingling Zhao and Mei Zhu. Each artist brings years of experience living and creating in the American West, and through their work they express a deep appreciation for life and for the world around them.
Together, their perspectives add fresh color to the cultural fabric of Las Vegas. Desert light, open landscapes and human stories meet in a historic downtown schoolhouse turned cultural center — a calm, welcoming stop that feels very different from the bright lights of the Strip, and all the more special for it.
"Song of the Oasis" is on view through December 18, 2026, at the Mayor’s Gallery, Historic Fifth Street School, 401 S. Fourth St. The gallery is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., excluding holidays, and admission is free and open to the public.
