Last Chance: ‘Compassion: What Moves You?’ Closes Nov. 1 at the Carlos Museum

Atlanta gets one last chance to experience one of its most uplifting exhibitions of the year. Compassion: What Moves You? is in its final days at the Michael C. Carlos Museum at Emory University, closing Sunday, November 1, 2026, after a run that began January 31.

Presented as part of Emory’s university-wide Year of Compassion with the Center for Contemplative Science and Compassion-Based Ethics, the exhibition invites visitors to explore — in a concrete, hands-on way — what motivates us, moves us and gives us purpose, and how we find empathy in one another through our shared humanity.

Highlights include INOCHI THEATER: If Your Life Were Light, by the Japanese collective ARu, Inc., where flows of light linked to the human heart reveal our interdependence, and photographer Shingo Kanagawa’s moving father series, a years-long portrait of his relationship with his father. Works on paper by Danny Lyon, Manjari Sharma, Kristin Capp and José Ibarra Rizo, creations by students in Emory’s SEE Learning program around the world, and a welcoming Compassion Lab for reflection and dialogue complete the journey.

The Carlos Museum, at 571 South Kilgo Circle, is one of Atlanta’s great cultural treasures, and this warm, thought-provoking show is a beautiful reason to visit this week — bring family or a friend, slow down, and leave inspired to carry a little more compassion into everyday life.
